Health and Phys Ed Curriculum
These courses emphasize regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principals to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decisionmaking, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices.

PAF1O1G (Open) (girls)
Large Group Activities - Skill Development
This course is offered for those girls who are interested in improving their personal fitness level.  Fitness is emphasized throughout the course via many different activities (e.g. aerobics, cardiorespiratory training, stability ball training, tubing, circuit and strength training).  Also offered is a personalized weight program which includes weekly weight training sessions with the goal of improving a girl's body image, self esteem, and level of fitness.

Healthy Active Living Education
This course emphasizes students' daily participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement techniques and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety/injury-prevention strategies. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication and social skills.

PPL2O1B (Open) (boys)
Healthy Active Living - Recreation
This course will provide a variety of traditional (e.g. basketball, badminton, etc.) and non-traditional (biking, self-defense, etc.) activities through a recreational approach that will allow you to lead a healthy active life. The fitness component will be addressed through individual fitness profiles.
Prerequisites: None Credits: 1

PAF2O1G (Open) (girls only)
Personal and Fitness Activities - Girls Fitness
This course is offered for those girls who are interested in improving their personal fitness level. Fitness is emphasized throughout the course via many different activities (e.g. aerobics, cardiorespiratory training, stability ball training, tubing, circuit and strength training). Also offered is a personalized weight program which includes weekly weight training sessions with the goal of improving a girl's body image, self esteem, and level of fitness.

This course will provide an opportunity for you to develop your skills in traditional large group sporting activities (e.g. basketball, volleyball, rugby, etc.) through a competitive environment. You will develop individual skills as well as learn game and team strategies. The fitness component will be addressed through individual fitness profiles.

PPL3O1B (Open) (boys)
Healthy Active Living Education
This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that have the potential to engage students' interest throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to develop personal competence in a variety of movement skills, and will be given opportunities to practise goal-setting, decision-making, coping, social, and interpersonal skills. Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety.
Prerequisites: None Credits: 1

Training methods will vary depending upon the needs of the class. (Possibilities include: weight training, circuit training, stability ball and tubing training, cycling, roller blading, walking, running, aerobics and dance.) Students will also study the components of healthy relationships, reproductive health, mental health and personal safety. A small fee may be required for specific activities.

PSE4U1 (University)
Exercise Science
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual's participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.
Prerequisites: PPL3O1, PPZ3O1, PPL4O1, SBI3U1, SCH3U1, SPH3U1 or SNC3M1 Credits: 1

PLF4C1 (College)
Recreation and Fitness Leadership
This course focuses on the development of leadership and coordination skills related to recreational activities. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan, organize, and implement recreational events. They will also learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well-being, and personal safety to others through mentoring. The practical component will involve organizing special events and activities within the classroom, high school and elementary schools in the community. The course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure, and fitness leadership.

IDC3OL - IDC4UL (Open/University) — New
This course combines the expectations for Interdisciplinary Studies, Grade 12, College Recreation and Fitness Leadership with selected expectations from two or more other courses: Grade 12 University/College Business Leadership: Management Fundamentals, Grade 12 University/College Financial Accounting Principals.

This Leadership course will encourage students to practice the key elements of servant leadership through peer and mentorship learning opportunities. This course identifies three major stages of adolescent leadership development: awareness, interaction and mastery. Based on this model, the course provides leadership development through a balance of theory and practice - skill units comprise the theory components while practical tactics for developing leadership skills through experiences at home, school, community resulting in a positive impact on the people they influence. Students identify, develop, and refine their own positive leadership styles throughout this course.
